It's not common knowledge that the "gorge" located between the Ford Dam and St. Anthony Falls is the only "gorge" geological formation on the Mississippi. We are likely aware of the steep slopes descending from the University Campus and down river along the East and West River Roads. But, it's not until you're down on the river that you feel the awesome majesty of the "gorge". Formed by the constant ascension up the river by what is today known as St. Anthony Falls, the gorge is a reminder of our ever-changing geography sculpted by natural forces. Join us as we explore this truly unique section of the Mississippi River. It is truly spectacular during the fall and spring.
This tour is recommended for intermediate paddlers and those guests who are up for a bit of a work out.
The plan is to meet at Bohemian Flats (MAP). If cell phones, or camera accompany a paddler, it's recommended to stow item(s) in a zip lock baggie, or dry bag. If you don't have a bag, we'll use some sort of baggie to fix you up. Any questions, please call, or e-mail. We can always take on additional paddlers -- just let us know!
Here are some suggested items to bring:
• Wicking clothing (if possible)
• Shoes you don't mind getting wet (wet booties are available for rent $5, or buy $29.95)
• Dry bag (bags are available for rent $2.50, or buy $15.95)
• Change of clothes
• Water
• Sun Block
• Hat
• Sun Glasses
